A Tale of Two Magnificent Waterfalls, Langlok and Likhong

Bandarban, located in the picturesque Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, is home to some of the most stunning natural wonders. Two of its hidden gems are Langlok and Likhong waterfalls, which are situated in close proximity and offer a breathtaking experience for adventurous travelers. In this blog, we will take you on a journey to these cascading wonders, describing our adventure, the breathtaking landscapes, and the mesmerizing waterfalls.

Langlok waterfall, often claimed to be the tallest in Bangladesh (though there is some debate regarding this title with Baklai waterfall), is a mesmerizing natural spectacle nestled in the Bandarban district, near Remakri. Our adventure began with the anticipation of witnessing this incredible natural wonder.

Discovering Langlok Waterfall — Bangladesh’s Tallest

Our expedition began with a bus ride to Bandarban, followed by a thrilling ride on a Chander Gari (a specially modified jeep designed for hill roads) to Thanchi Bazar, a quaint town that would serve as our base for exploring these waterfalls. We also obtained the necessary permissions from the Army, a common requirement for visiting this remote region.

The next leg of our adventure involved navigating the powerful Sangu River on small boats. To save time, we had our lunch aboard the boat while marveling at the lush green scenery that surrounded us. After approximately three hours, we reached Remakri Bazar, and within 30 minutes, our boat journey continued to a local village, where our hiking adventure would commence.

Our hike through the verdant landscape led us to the awe-inspiring Langlok waterfall. Despite intermittent rain showers, we were treated to the sight of a torrent of water flowing down the cascade. The journey to Langlok was approximately an hour, and the sight of this natural wonder made it all worthwhile.

As the evening approached, we opted for a shortcut to return to our boat, ensuring we wouldn’t be stranded in the dark. With the fading light of day, our boatman guided us to Remakri Falls, where we savored the beauty of this location until sunset before seeking shelter in a tribal neighborhood.

A Risky Trek to Likhong

The following morning, we embarked on another boat journey, this time to reach Likhong waterfall. The hike to Likhong was comparatively riskier, but we successfully navigated the challenges to reach the waterfall. Unfortunately, due to limited rainfall the previous night, the waterfall had less water, but the experience was still enchanting.

Our adventure to Langlok and Likhong waterfalls in Bandarban was a memorable journey through the heart of Bangladesh’s natural beauty. Despite the challenges and risks, the enchanting waterfalls, lush landscapes, and the warm hospitality of the tribal community made this trip an unforgettable experience. If you’re seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure in Bangladesh, these waterfalls should definitely be on your list.
